The highlights of this hike are the superb countryside and the magnificent views over Lake Geneva and the Savoy Alps.
A superb landscape and a magnificent view of Lake Geneva, Lake Neuchatel and the Alps are the highlights of this hike. The outing begins at the foot of the Jura from where you make a long ascent through the forest to Bonmont and its abbey. From there the road takes you to the summit of La Dôle, the highpoint of the trek, with a magnificent view of Lake Geneva, the alps of Savoy, Vaud, Fribourg, the Mont-Blanc massif, the Dents du Midi, and the French Jura. The trail then takes you to St-Cergue, a vacation paradise and a village rich in rustic traditions and authentic folklore. The further you wander from St-Cergue, the more the landscape changes. After passing the ruins of the charterhouse of Oujon, the deciduous trees increasingly make room for firs. Arriving at the ?Crêt de la Neuve? you will find a breathtaking panorama dominated by Mont-Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, and below, Lake Geneva, sparkling like a jewel. The view stretches all the way to the Rhone delta in the east and the trademark water spout in Geneva in the west. After a walk of about one hour through typical Jura forest and spectacular meadows, you arrive at the Col du Marchairuz. Make a well-deserved stop for rest and refreshment at the "hôtel-restaurant du Marchairuz" before heading out towards Mont-Tendre. From this summit you can see the whole arc of Lake Geneva and the Vallée de Joux. From Mont-Tendre, you descend to Le Pont on the shore of the Lac de Joux and then Vallorbe. From the city of iron, head upwards towards Suchet at 1,588 metres, passing Ballaigues. From the Chalet du Suchet you go down to Grange Neuve, the Col de l'Aiguillon and finish the tour at Sainte-Croix.
