The Association aims to promote exchanges, conviviality and the dynamism of what might be called local culture. This is a major event: promoting creativity and cultural and social exchange in the region.
In the early 1990s, two amateur painters who met regularly to chat and share good times had the idea of organising an exhibition in Gland. This project was particularly close to their hearts, so they decided to submit it to the association responsible for cultural events in the commune: Arts-Loisirs Gland (ALG).
They quickly obtained their agreement. Thanks to word of mouth, they were soon able to bring together a dozen professional or amateur artists, painters or sculptors, who were each working in their own corner without knowing each other.
In 1994, the magnificent Salle des colonnes at Grand-Champ College was made available to them by the commune and ALG. Gland. The space was divided between the first twelve artists, and the public came in droves, delighted to discover paintings and sculptures in these vast, luminous premises.
The first exhibitors, stimulated by this initial success, subsequently contacted new artists, and spared no effort to ensure that this magnificent exhibition would continue. They quickly formed an association: the Association des Peintres et Sculpteurs - Gland, which later became the Association des Peintres et Sculpteurs de la Côte (APSC).
The exhibition space at the Collège de Grand Champ was subsequently enlarged and further improved over time with the help of the Commune - Recognised artists have accepted APSC's invitation to exhibit some of their work as ‘guests of honour’, attracting new visitors.
Artists from all walks of life now contact the Association to ask to be among the exhibitors, which means that choices have to be made from among the applications - and the APSC, delighted with its success, is determined to keep its exhibition of painters and sculptors from La Côte alive.
