‘I'm Fine’: Chronicle of an exile, between war and resistance
Tatiana Frolova, KnAM Theatre
February 2022, Russia invades Ukraine. Just one month later, the Russian troupe of the KnAM Theatre is forced to flee and finds refuge in Lyon. Russian director and author Tatiana Frolova, an associate artist at the Théâtre des Célestins, continues with the KnAM Theatre to produce uncompromising documentary theatre woven from stories, archives, interviews and images.
Created in autumn 2025, I'm Fine is rooted in the experience of exile and the chaos wrought by war. The company questions the notions of home, homeland and refuge and shatters persistent myths: that of Russians convinced that the whole world envies their country and that of Europeans fascinated by the ‘enigmatic Russian soul’.
True to its refined aesthetic, using simple means and raw materials, the troupe transforms intimate experiences into theatrical material. Individual stories rub shoulders with collective history to give substance to a message that is both political and sensitive.
"What matters is that the heart is alive, because it is so easy to freeze it. " Tatiana Frolova – excerpt from the show Nous ne sommes plus (We Are No Longer)
‘Step by step, we are beginning to learn to live here.’ Tatiana Frolova
What the press is saying:
Even when downcast, even when fragile, even when sometimes clumsy, this team is putting up a fight. And theatre, always alive, like a blow to the heart.
