For a December 26: Birth between shadow and light.
Far from the glitter and sentimentality of contemporary stores, biblical stories as well as liturgical calendars link the radiant birth of Christ with the humblest human reality but also, and already, the most violent: the heavens open and angelic songs meet the destitution of the shepherds. God visits his creation and, in a few days, follows the bloodbath of children killed by Herod's jealousy.
In Western and Eastern churches, on December 26 or 27, the liturgy commemorates Saint Stephen, deacon, stoned and first martyr, who saw "the heavens opened" and gave his life for his faith and in the image of his Lord.
Tonight’s program offers several allusions to this proximity of shadow and light, of death and life.
