After reading the novel Marcher sans craindre le ravin, Alexandre Badadone thought he recognised himself in the character of Bel, who like him is a lawyer in his fifties and owns a house in Italy, portrayed as a particularly contemptible, violent and humiliating misogynist.
Alexandre then decided to accuse his author, Pauline Jobert, of defamation, breach of honour and invasion of privacy. Largely inspired by and documented in real cases heard by the 17th Chamber of the Paris Court of First Instance, Toute intention de nuire presents the trial of Badadone v Jobert, subtly, wittily and breathlessly dramatising the facts and fictions presented by the plaintiffs and the defence.
