Municipality of Prangins, the 2021 Wakker Prize
Located in the Côte vineyard region and neighboring the city of Nyon, the dynamic capital of the district, the commune of Prangins is home to one of the Swiss National Museum. An educational trail "On the lands of Baron Guiguer" retraces, from the castle to the shores of Lake Geneva, the historical importance of this seigneury during the Age of Enlightenment.
The municipality of Prangins is also subject to clear growth regulations. An integral part of the compact "Greater Geneva" agglomeration perimeter, its resident population is expected to increase by some 30% by 2030/2040.
The Federal Inventory of Built Sites (ISOS) identifies Prangins as an object of national importance. The classic French-style castle - which today houses one of the Swiss National Museum - but also the center of the town with its parks and open spaces are considered worthy of protection.
Prangins has decided to base its development on the values that have emerged throughout history, to strengthen and to develop them. Its objective is to reconcile demographic growth and high quality housing. To this end, the town pursues an active urban planning or spatial planning. Swiss Heritage distinguishes this remarkable approach by awarding the 2021 Wakker Prize to the municipality of Prangins.
