Lake Geneva Museum

Nyon is a cultural city on the shores of Lake Geneva whose history is closely linked to that of the lake. To pay tribute to "their" Lake Geneva, Nyon has dedicated a very extensive museum to it. Nature, culture, science: all aspects of the largest Western European Lake are represented in the Lake Geneva Museum.

Opened in 1954 in a townhouse on the shores of Lake Geneva, the museum has a collection about nature and culture by the lake. The collection contains many important objects, including 30 historic boats and a recently redesigned exhibition.

The museum tells about the people around the lake, in particular the rescue teams and fishermen and their activities in, on and around the lake.
Five aquariums represent typical biotopes of Lake Geneva: from the shores throughout the depths of the lake.

The upper floor is dedicated to the Piccard family, whose first tourist submarine was invented by Auguste Piccard and commissioned in 1964 during the National Exhibition in Lausanne. The exhibition also shows other incredible masterpieces by the Piccard family, whether in the deep sea or in the stratosphere.
