MUSIC
Pianist, composer, filmmaker, but above all an unclassifiable artist, Chassol returns to the Usine à Gaz with *Funny How?*, a new album exploring the musicality of American stand-up comedy. A concert that is also a film and a performance.
Christophe Chassol has one obsession: harmonizing reality. Since his early Ultrascores—those hybrid creations where everyday sounds, filmed images, and compositions blend into a single work—he has been mapping the world through sound, from Japan to New Orleans, via India and Martinique. For *Funny How?*, he sets up his microphones (and cameras) in comedy clubs in New York and Chicago, captivated by the verbal virtuosity of stand-up comedians. Dave Chappelle, Dulcé Sloan, Marina Franklin, and others become the raw material for an orchestral work where soul, jazz, rap, and musical theater coexist. In concert, music and images interplay in a performance where Chassol proves once again that he occupies a unique place in the musical landscape.
