In Algiers, in the 1930s, Meursault leads an ordinary life, characterised by a certain indifference to the world around him. A series of events leads him to commit an irreversible act and subsequently to face the consequences of his actions.
Adapted from Albert Camus’s famous novel, François Ozon’s *The Stranger* follows Meursault, a young man working in Algiers whose life is turned upside down following the death of his mother, a relationship with Marie and an encounter with a neighbour involved in shady dealings. On a sun-drenched beach, a tragedy unfolds and transforms his life. Through the journey of this man living on the fringes of social conventions, the film explores absurdity, loneliness and the individual’s relationship with society.
