The Echappée Jurassienne trail, step 1 - La Cure - St-Cergue
Après avoir quitté la station des Rousses, il est temps de traverser la frontière Suisse au village transfrontalier de La Cure pour commencer l’ascension de la Dôle (1677 m), après un passage dans les troupeaux d’alpage et au col de Porte, la crête s’offre aux randonneurs et offre une vue incroyable à 180° sur le Léman et la chaine des Alpes… Le Mont Blanc comme on ne l’a jamais vu ! C’est ce que l’on retiendra de cette étape sur l’un des plus hauts sommets de la chaine du Jura. Vient ensuite la descente sur le village de Saint-Cergue depuis la Barillette.

Summit of La Dôle
The Dôle summit is a major focuspoint in the natural heritage of the Jura, as it is visible from the whole western part of Lake Geneva region.
La Dôle is situated between the French and Swiss borders. From its summit you can admire a stunning view : on one side the Alps with the Mont Blanc, Lake Geneva region and of course lake Geneva itself with the “Jet d’eau”, on the other side the “Mont-Jura” and the Lake of Les Rousses.
The fauna lovers will undoubtedly like observing groups of chamois who live on the hillsides of La Dôle, whereas the fans of technology surely will appreciate the dimensions and materials used in the enormous white “bowl” on the summit. This observatory is being used as a meteorological station as well as a traffic regulator for the International Geneva Airport.

Peak of “La Barillette”
The “Restaurant de la Barillette” also welcomes hikers for regional specialities such as fondue or entrecôte, from May to October.
Perched at the top a new version of the emblematic antenna of “La Barillette” which has dominated Lake Geneva since the fifties.
This place is one of the favourite spots for hikers, during the summer season. The path continues to the summit of La Dôle.
“La Barillette” mountain bike race is one of the most popular sporting events of the calendar (August). The race takes place from Chéserex and arrives at the summit.

The owners welcome you from Wednesday to Sunday to savour the specialities of the region.
From its terrace, enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Geneva reaching from Geneva to Villeneuve. And to top it all, you also have an exceptional view of Mont Blanc.
The specialities are Vacherin-Gruyère fondue and beef entrecôte accompanied by home-made butter or home-made mushroom sauce.

The Castle of St-Cergue was destroyed during the Burgundy Wars. From its old square, it is possible to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Geneva and the Alps, from Moléson to Salève. Rousseau, Goethe and Lamartine were inspired by this scenery.
On this site, there are picnic tables, barbecues and benches available for walkers or just to enjoy the view.

Linking Lake Geneva and the Jura, the Nyon–St-Cergue–La Cure railway line takes its passengers on a delightful trip through some idyllic countryside and villages.
An essential link for the whole region, the Nyon–St-Cergue–La Cure (NStCM) line passes through a rich and colourful landscape, linking no less than 10 towns and villages to the centre of Nyon and the main CFF line.
All along the route from Nyon to La Cure, you come across charming places, characterful villages and testaments of the region’s heritage.
Serving a whole local population, the NStCM railway line also aims to help promote the tourist development of the region, offering many points of interest and places to see and visit along its route.

Les gogants around St-Cergue
The famous gogant is a white fir tree, isolated, of exceptional size, having taken with age, a wingspan, a magnitude never known by trees in the forests; the branches detaching from the base of the trunk have often reached the size of real trees, and rise towards the sky. Other very long branches extend widely around the often enormous base, giving shelter to people, livestock or game - except in stormy weather!
