Ecological fable - Manuel, a Haitian peasant, returns to his native land after fifteen years of work in Cuba on sugar cane plantations. But his land is dying, men have neglected it and he no longer recognises anything of his village.
The abundant harvests, the communal work punctuated by the sound of drums, songs and harmonies have given way to an aridity and rivalries that are eating away at the community. Manuel, on the other hand, is the tireless architect of the return of water and reconciliation, to the point of provoking a collective awareness in his village.
and reconciliation, even to the point of provoking a collective awareness in his village. Governors of the Dew takes the form of a tale of warning and hope, declined in a thousand and one tones. To the sound of Aïda Diop's percussion, Amélie Chérubin Soulières interprets an entire Haitian village in poetic, creole French. A curved finger, a change of accent... she gives voice and body to these characters and plunges ardently into a committed and intense performance.
Jacques Roumain's original language transports us to the heart of a tragic myth. This author delivers both an ecological fable and a dreamlike tale, carried here by two powerful women.
